OH YES

By Brit

I bought a new camera, a Nikon D3000. It’s out for delivery right now and well, I’m on my way out the door for work. I can’t wait to get out of work today!

It’s gorgeous and I can’t wait to get my grubby little hands all over it.

My Favorite Face

My Favorite Face

One of the last pictures my camera took before it broke. I love this face so much everyday /sappy.

First Full Week

By Brit

This is the fourth of five days in the first full 40 hour week I’ve ever worked. I’m not doing too terrible, I mean, everyone does this, it can’t be that hard, right? I’m not going to lie, I can’t wait to do NOTHING this weekend.

My camera broke last night. Yeah. I’m pretty sad, as you can imagine. So, until it gets fixed/a new one is bought, I’m going to put the 365 project on hold. I could take pictures with my regular point and shoot camera, but the reason I wanted to do the project was so that I could learn more and more about my DSLR. So, yeah, suck.

Weekend in Review

By Brit

Matt and I spent the weekend in Toledo with his parents. It was a tonnnn of fun. I always love going to hang out with Ginny.

We had some AMAZING Japanese food.

Koto Buki Restaurant

Went shopping in a tea shop.

World Tea Co.

Saw this awesome sculpture in the middle of a parking lot.

And went on a photo safari.

Guarding the Firehouse

I’ve been ridiculously busy with work and studying for work and catching up on sleep that going into work at 715am everyday is making me lose. I love the job though, right now at least, and that’s the most important thing.

Number Two

Abba-Dabba-Doo!

This is Abby. She’s the world’s second cutest dog, after Lucy-dog (of course!).

I’m quite inundated with work (and homework, from work! ugh) but I’m hoping to get a lot of picture taking in this weekend and hopefully later this week! But, for now? A well-deserved nap (I’m not used to these long ass days!).

First Day: Down

By Brit

I made it through my first day, and although we didn’t actually eat the dinner I cooked, I baked some manicotti for the freezer (we had another batch of it last night for dinner, two nights in a row is a bit much). I let Matt take me out for dinner tonight to celebrate the new job (I’m not sure how many times we can celebrate it, but it’s so awesome, I’m sure we’ve got at least another one in us).

So far tonight: Luce has had a bath, I’ve baked manicotti, done 2 loads of laundry, taken umpteen pictures around the house for today’s 365 picture, and oh, my ASS is killing me. Yeah, that kind of killing me again. I am NOT impressed.

Ginny’s Hummous

By Brit

I made Ginny’s recipe for hummous today. It’s absolutely fantastic. It’ll be my last batch of hummous for awhile though, as my blender blended it’s last batch of hummous. It was a sad day for about 2 minutes until I realized that means I get to get a new blender (or! maybe a food processor instead). Decisions, decisions. What blender do you use? Would you rather use a food processor?

Ginny's Hummous

Ginny’s Hummus

1 cup chick peas, drained
⅓ cup lemon juice
1 tablespoon garlic
⅓ cup tahini
3 tablespoons water
pinch of salt

Drain liquid from can of chick peas. Add water and drain again.

In blender, put lemon juice, garlic, salt, tahini, chick peas and part of water. Blend on low. Stir around with rubber spatula. Blend on medium or high adding water for desired thickness.

At this point, also taste for salt and lemon.

Serve in bowl and garnish with paprika and chopped parsley.

Sweet Potato Mush

By Brit

I tried to make sweet potato fries again today. I’ve never had too much luck with sweet potato fries. They always turn out mushy and well, I love crispy on the outside fries. There’s nothing better than a fry with a crunchy outside and an unbelievably yummy inside that’s just the right amount cooked. I’ve mastered regular baked potato fries. I make them at least once a week, even if they do take at least an hour and a half to make each time. Sweet potato fries have just alluded me for so long. I don’t want to fry them. I want to bake them so I can feel less bad about eating a ridiculous amount of them.

The potatoes I made on Saturday look fantastic, but they were mushy, almost burned and not really appetizing at all.

Sweet Potato Fries

Ohhhh, and here’s the burned potatoes …

Sweet Potato Fries

They don’t look half bad, but they’re not what I want. So, my question is: What recipe do you use for crispy sweet potato fries?

My 365 Project: Week 1 (& a half)

By Brit

I started doing a 365 Project where I take a photograph every day for a year on the 10th of February. It’s been 10 days, and for the most part, I’m ridiculously happy with the pictures I’ve taken. A couple of days I’ve felt fairly terrible and have just snapped something quick so that I could go to bed, but other days, I spent hours taking pictures and editing them to find the perfect picture.

Each day for the next week, the pictures (with descriptions) are posted on the 365 Collection on my flickr. I’ll post next week’s pictures on Saturday (hopefully, if everything goes alright).
