Ever since I was little my dad would make pizzas for us. It was the best thing because we could put exactly what we wanted on the pizzas. I hate onions and well, my dad puts them in everything. Everyone got their own pizza and I loved it. I finally convinced him to give me his recipe because I could never make them like he does. I’ll admit they’re still better at his house, but man they’re pretty damn good when I make them too.
Firehouse Pizzas
for the sauce:
2 Tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil
2 cloves Garlic, Minced
1 whole White Onion
1 can 16 Oz Tomato Sauce
1 can 12 Oz Tomato Paste
1 Tablespoon Basil
2 Tablespoons Oregano
4 dash(es) Sugar
for the pizza:
1 package Tortilla Shells
Mozzarella Cheese
Green Pepper
Mushrooms
Pepperoni
Italian Sausage (cooked)
Sliced Green Olives
Sliced Black Olives
Romano Cheese
Crushed Red Pepper
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a small saucepan, heat olive oil. Once heated, add 1/2 onion finely minced and the minced garlic.
Once onions are soft, add tomato sauce and tomato paste. Stir until there are no more lumps in the sauce.
Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of oregano over the top of the pan, stir in.
Repeat with basil.
Repeat again with last of oregano.
Add a palmful of sugar and stir. Let simmer for about 15 minutes.
The sauce makes enough for about 6-8 pizzas. It freezes very well.
Set tortilla shells on pizza pan. Add sauce and mozzarella cheese. Add veggies. Sprinkle Romano cheese on top.
This is the most important part – take your hands and smush down the pizza.
Put into hot oven. Cook 12-15 minutes or until tortilla starts to turn brownish and cheese is melted.
The best part of the firehouse pizza is that you can put whatever you want on it. My pizza (on the green plate above) was all of 250 calories. Awesome! Matt’s pizza (on the orange plate) was about 600 calories because his had pepperoni on it. 250 calories for pizza is the best, and this totally solves the cravings.
