This Thursday is Thanksgiving. I can’t believe it. It’s going to be a different Thanksgiving for me. For the last probably 10 years I’ve had at least 2 dinners to go to on Thanksgiving. It got to the point where I knew what the good foods were at each and I’d fill up on those at each of the houses. There were a few years that I had 3! dinners to go to on Thanksgiving. It got to be a little ridiculous, and though I am a big fan of the food on Thanksgiving, that much family time can make anyone crazy. So is the life of a kid with divorced parents.
In the last few years, I had worked on Thanksgiving. Whether it was only a few hours or that I was gone on a 4 or 5 day trip while I was a flight attendant, I didn’t always get to spend the day with my family. I can’t say I didn’t mind. I always made sure to visit my family every time I went back to Muskegon, though being away from home without anyone on Thanksgiving kind of does suck.
This year I’ll be spending Thanksgiving away from Muskegon family and having dinner with my family in Ohio. I’m really excited. Though I will miss my family and my little nieces and getting to see family from out of state I haven’t seen in more than a year, I am ecstatic about only going to one dinner.
If I didn’t work in retail, I’d be heading back to Muskegon for dinner with my dad’s side of the family on Friday (he’s a firefighter that’s got to work on Thanksgiving) but I’ll be up bright and early ready for work when my shift starts at 4:30am and reminiscing about the days when I was a flight attendant and I would do this every day (but I was expected to be more chipper and have more make up on then).
I can’t wait for Thanksgiving. It really is one of my favorite holidays. Ginny is going to brine the turkey in the brine my dad uses and I can’t wait to see what amazing food she’ll be making. I just have to figure out what to bring for an appetizer, any ideas?
